Product Details

This shikomizue brings together the covert elegance of a Japanese cane sword with a 27.55-inch straight blade forged from 1045 carbon steel. Heat-treated to 58 HRC, the chrome-polished nagasa delivers a bright, mirror-like surface contrasted by a visible hamon line running the length of the edge. The sharpened blade tapers to a defined point, and the full tang construction provides solid balance throughout the 39.37-inch frame.

The tsuka measures 9.84 inches and is carved with a raised bamboo stalk pattern that provides both visual interest and a textured grip. A brass habaki sits at the base of the blade, locking it firmly into the saya and creating a clean transition between steel and wood. The handle's all-black finish keeps the overall profile understated and cohesive.

Alloy fittings in a dark finish are set at each junction of the saya, mimicking the natural nodes of a bamboo stalk. These metal rings add structural reinforcement while contributing to the disguised walking-stick silhouette that defines the shikomizue style.

The black hardwood saya is the centerpiece of this piece's concealment design. Its matte lacquer surface is engraved with delicate bamboo leaves and stalks at each segment, and a black sageo cord wraps neatly near the mouth. When sheathed, the blade is completely hidden, and the saya reads as nothing more than a carved bamboo walking stick. Browse more designs in the Japanese Stick Sword collection.

At 2.45 lbs total, this shikomizue is lightweight enough for single-hand handling while retaining the heft expected from a steel-cored collectible. The straight chokuto geometry, all-black palette, and bamboo-themed engravings make it a distinctive addition for collectors drawn to unconventional Japanese sword forms.

  • Forged from 1045 carbon steel with a hardness of 58 HRC, this straight shikomizue blade features a chrome-polished finish and a sharpened edge along its 27.55-inch nagasa.
  • Black hardwood saya carved to replicate natural bamboo segments, complete with engraved bamboo leaf motifs and a matte lacquer surface that conceals the blade within.
  • Full tang construction with a 9.84-inch black tsuka featuring detailed bamboo-pattern carving and a brass habaki collar that locks the blade securely into the saya.
  • Disguised as an elegant walking stick at 39.37 inches overall, the seamless cane design hides the straight blade entirely when sheathed, weighing 2.45 lbs.
  • Alloy fittings in dark tones complement the all-black color scheme, with a black sageo cord wrapped at the saya mouth for a clean, understated profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel is used in this shikomizue blade?
The straight blade is forged from 1045 carbon steel, heat-treated to a hardness of 58 HRC. The 27.55-inch nagasa has a chrome-polished finish and comes sharpened with a full tang structure running through the handle.
How does the cane sword design conceal the blade?
The 29.53-inch black hardwood saya is carved and fitted with alloy rings to look like a natural bamboo walking stick. When the blade is sheathed and the brass habaki locks into place, the entire piece appears to be a single solid cane at 39.37 inches long.
What are the bamboo engravings on the saya made of?
The bamboo leaf and stalk motifs are hand-engraved directly into the matte-lacquered hardwood saya. Dark alloy fittings sit at each segment joint, replicating bamboo nodes while reinforcing the structure. A black sageo cord finishes the design at the mouth.

IPad Air4 for size comparison. It's beautiful, just like the photos. It has a hefty weight and feels sturdy. I absolutely love it and just need to get a display stand for it.
I didn't want to remove the plastic on the blade, as I don't have any oil yet to care for it, so I'm leaving it wrapped but I saw no chips, bends, dents, or scratches on the blade. It arrived carefully wrapped between two blocks of Styrofoam in perfect condition and tracking was easy to follow. Overall I'm super satisfied and so glad I bought it.

Very nice, well made sword. I never considered its weight, but I can feel it is solid.

Hilarious "do not use for" rules on the enclosed card. (Ex. - Do not groom your dog with this sword")

This was my 3rd purchase from True Katana. But it's my first straight blade Katana (don't know the technical name) Very sleek and stylish. I love the simplicity of this sword. It came packaged well, the blade was wrapped in plastic and had a layer of oil to preserve it. Very sharp!!, feels good to hold and swing. Don't know if they make a set of this or not. I find no irregularities, no wobbling what so ever and it slides in smoothly. The Katana is exactly what they post on the site, just looks better up close and personal. Very pleased with this purchase.

This one is a great find. Beautiful build quality and also very affordable. It caught my eye emediately on the website, ordered it and when it arrived in almost less than a week I was not disappointed. The weight of it is awesome, really feels strong in hand. The sleek simple bamboo design is top notch also . This sword took me back to my days in Okinawa, Japan thanks True Katana! When it arrived there was a couple cracks in my scabbard causing it to release a little loosely but I addressed it with TrueKatana Customer service and they sent me a new scabbard free of charge! Best customer service ever! Sent an email with a couple pictures and Fiona responded promptly within 24 hrs. Very pleased with the TrueKatana brand so far! Looking forward to my next purchase. THANKS!!

It's little heavier than I imagined. But looks good. I do have to say, they have been inconsistent with product descriptions. I'm not sure if this is a full tang.

I don’t know much about swords but it was pretty dirty on the inside so I don’t think I can keep it in the holder without it getting brown dirty stuff on it. but the quality of it was incredible thanks so much for the speedy delivery
