Which steel produces the best hamon?
T10 tool steel produces the most dramatic and active hamon temper lines due to its carbon and tungsten content. 1095 also produces beautiful hamon with finer detail. Lower carbon steels can show hamon but with more subtle effects.
Does steel type affect price?
Yes. Higher carbon steels and Damascus steel cost more due to material cost and the additional forging time and skill required. 1045 and manganese steel katanas are the most affordable, while T10 and Damascus represent the premium tier.
