Frequently Asked Questions

What makes T10 steel a good choice for a wakizashi?
T10 is a high-carbon tool steel with roughly 0.95-1.05% carbon and a trace of tungsten, which refines grain structure and improves wear resistance compared to simpler high-carbon grades like 1060 or 1075. In a wakizashi's shorter blade format, those material qualities translate into a collectible piece that holds its polish well and responds beautifully to the clay-tempering process, producing a visible, authentic hamon. The result is a display piece with genuine metallurgical character rather than surface-level aesthetics.
Is the hamon on these wakizashi real or just etched?
The hamon on T10 clay-tempered wakizashi in this collection is produced through actual differential heat treatment, not acid etching or grinding. During production, clay is applied thicker over the spine and thinner near the edge before quenching. The edge cools faster and becomes harder martensite, while the spine stays tougher. The visible boundary between those two zones is the hamon. Because it results from the steel's actual crystalline structure, it has depth and activity - visible cloud-like formations called nie and nioi - that etched lines simply cannot replicate. Under raking light, the difference is immediately apparent to any collector.
How does a wakizashi differ from a tanto or a katana?
Blade length is the clearest distinction. A tanto typically measures under 12 inches, a wakizashi falls between roughly 12 and 24 inches, and a katana extends beyond 24 inches. Beyond size, each format carries its own proportional geometry: the wakizashi tends to have a slightly more pronounced curvature relative to its length than a tanto, and its fittings - tsuba, tsuka, and saya - are scaled accordingly. In a collector context, the wakizashi is often displayed as a standalone piece or paired with a matching katana to form a daisho, the classical paired set that represents one of the most recognizable symbols of Japanese blade tradition.
How should I maintain a T10 wakizashi for long-term display?
After any handling, apply a thin, even coat of choji oil or food-grade mineral oil along the full length of the blade using a soft cotton cloth. This prevents finger acid and ambient moisture from initiating surface oxidation. Store the piece on a horizontal sword stand or vertically in its saya with the edge facing upward, in a stable low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight. If you live in a coastal or seasonally humid region, placing silica gel packets near the storage area adds meaningful protection. Periodically remove the blade from the saya to check for moisture trapped between the blade and the wood, which can cause localized rust spots if left unaddressed.
Does this wakizashi pair well with a matching katana as a gift set?
Yes - pairing a Brown T10 wakizashi with a corresponding katana from the same aesthetic line creates a daisho-inspired display set with matched fittings, consistent saya finish, and unified design language. This makes a particularly thoughtful gift for collectors who appreciate the historical context of paired Japanese blades. Both pieces share the same T10 clay-tempered construction and brown-toned hardware, so they display cohesively side by side on a dual sword stand. Selecting pieces with matching tsuba designs - both copper or both silver floral - strengthens the visual harmony of the pairing.

Overall a good product. The blade is excellent, and overall workmanship is quite good.r
Two problems observed:r
The Habaki is loose - it slides back and forth on the blade with a noticeable gap between the notch on the blade and the Seppa.r
The Tsuka-Ito is a bit looser than it should be.r
While I can repair both of these I should not have to do so. The assembly should not have passed inspection.

Over all, beautiful blade, fit and finish could be a little better, packaging needs more, the saya had a small chip on the end, the habaki is very loose, and the fuchi is loose, also the tang rocks in the hand when swung, I do understand the price point but everything should still be nice and tight. Other than those issues this is beautiful overall

Well, I ordered this beautiful Wakizashi together with a expensive Katana for my dad, and the 2 Swords arrives today. r
About this brown Wakizashi: As it was stated to have a 26cm Tsuka, and as seen on the website to have a Bohi on the Blade... I ordered it. All in all, the Wakizashi has been looking awesome in pictures.r
r
Today it arrived, and unfortunately, the Tsuka was only 21cm long, and the Blade didn't have a Bohi (Blood Groove).r
r
I ordered from Austria, I had to wait quite some time and was very unsatisfied with the short Tsuka and Blade without the Bohi. Yet, I was very surprised, by how kind, service-orientated and extra-ordinary-professional these guys handled it.r
r
The swords looks awesome, but still, I was dissatisfied, so they offered me some ammount of refund which honestly, arrived a couple of hours ago. I am quite happy with this solution and still, the Swords are pretty decent, feel like quality-items and the team handled this very fast. The Katana is absolute awesome... so thank you a lot !

I am a practitioner of Iaido. This is normally done with a sword that is blunt. I did want something with a live edge. I am happy with the quality of the build. I purchased these two items and I actually had the smaller one customized to match the bigger one. I appreciate their communication and it was easy to have the discussion about what needed to be done. I was constantly updated and in contact with them. They were pleasant in their conversation, everything happened at an expedient and I am happy to say that I am pleased with my purchase.
