Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rose gold blade finish and how is it applied to a katana?
The rose gold blade finish on a katana is a warm champagne-gold color treatment applied to the high-carbon steel blade surface after the primary forging and heat treatment processes are complete. The treatment creates a warm metallic tone with pink-gold undertones that is distinct from both conventional steel silver and the brighter yellow tones of gold blade configurations. On a T10 clay-tempered piece, the rose gold treatment is applied after the clay tempering and initial polishing, with the hamon temper line remaining visible beneath or alongside the warm-tone surface treatment. On 1045 and 1095 carbon steel pieces, the rose gold treatment covers the blade surface as the primary visual element. The finish adheres to the blade surface and is maintained through the same care routine as other color blade treatments: regular wiping with soft cloth, light oiling with camellia oil or mineral oil, and avoidance of abrasive materials that would damage the color surface.
What steel grades are used in rose gold sword blades?
Rose gold sword blades in this collection are available in three high-carbon steel grades. 1045 carbon steel provides the foundational grade with reliable full-tang construction and proper blade hardness - the gold blade treatment on the 1045 piece creates a warm bright-gold tone on a solid carbon steel base. 1095 carbon steel offers enhanced hardness and surface quality: the higher carbon content gives the blade denser grain structure, and the rose gold treatment on a 1095 base has a particularly refined surface character. T10 carbon steel with clay tempering is the premium grade in the rose gold collection: the differential heat treatment creates a hamon along the blade length, and the rose gold finish creates an unusual and sophisticated combination where the warmth of the color treatment coexists with the traditional blade craft element of the hamon. All three grades feature full-tang construction confirmed by mekugi retention pins.
How does a rose gold katana compare to a yellow gold katana as a display piece?
Rose gold and yellow gold katana create distinctly different display aesthetics despite their shared warm-tone color family. Yellow gold configurations typically present a brighter, more saturated golden tone - vivid and warm in the same color register as yellow blade treatments. Rose gold configurations present a more muted, complex warm tone with pink or champagne undertones that reads as more restrained and sophisticated than vivid yellow-gold. The difference is roughly analogous to the distinction between bright yellow gold and rose gold jewelry: the rose gold reads as more refined and subtle, with a warmth that is present without asserting itself as forcefully as the brighter yellow-gold tone. For collectors who want a warm metallic aesthetic that is distinctive without the visual loudness of vivid yellow-gold, rose gold blade treatments occupy a unique and refined position. In a multi-sword display, a rose gold katana alongside yellow gold and conventional steel pieces creates warm-tone variety within the gold color family.
How do I maintain a rose gold blade finish long-term?
Maintaining a rose gold blade finish requires protecting both the high-carbon steel blade beneath the finish and the warm-tone color treatment on the surface. The care routine is: after every handling session, wipe the full blade with a soft lint-free cloth to remove fingerprints and moisture. High-carbon steel beneath any color treatment will oxidize without regular care, and the rose gold finish does not eliminate this requirement. Apply a very thin coat of camellia oil or mineral oil to the full blade surface and buff away excess with a soft cloth, using light pressure to avoid any abrasion of the color surface. Never use metal polishing compounds, abrasive cloths, or solvents on a rose gold blade - these will damage or remove the color treatment. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure, which can cause warm-tone treatments to fade or shift over time. Store in a stable-temperature, low-humidity environment in the scabbard or on a display rack. Inspect the blade surface periodically for any oxidation developing through the finish, which should be addressed immediately with oil treatment.

Delivered well and without issues. Blade and scabbard/saya are beautiful, although the scabbard is very tight, even tight for the initial unsheathing phase of the blade. Even knowing the wood will expand eventually, I may still need to file it down a little to allow for the blade to even be drawn. For any potential buyers as well (I was unaware of this), the scabbard's design is not placed onto the wood itself, but comes from leather sewn onto the scabbard. Otherwise a good purchase and the sword is quality, and functions really well for decoration and very light practical use.
