Wow, what a fabulous sword for the price!r
I practice Iaido and generally utilize an aluminum-bladed specific katana. I purchased this katana to have a reasonably priced live blade for kata and demonstrations. I also teach Kobudo and utilize a live blade for demonstrations and for more advanced students (Bo, Tonfa, and Sai). I couldn't be happier considering the cost of this katana. The blade, fitings and assembly quality are several notches above the price. Sharpness is adequate for showing the live blade during demonstrations (water bottles, etc.), and I don't really want a true razor edge for demos. As the instructor, I generally act as "Tori" and have an advanced student act as "Uke" with the katana, so any risk from the live blade is on me. I'm not especially worried about damaging the blade edge, even with the Sai, and my Ukes have said they like the katana. I recommend this katana to anyone looking to minimize cost and needing a good basic katana.

Overall experience, ok. Shipping box looked like someone took a sword to it (torn, ripped, dented); sturdier material should be used. Ok sword (you get what you pay for) but blade collar (Habaki) and guard (Tsuba) are loose. Wasn't expecting a battle-ready, high end piece, but shouldn't have loose parts.

Great overall, arrived super fast! However, I don't know if it was meant like that, but the blade would often hit the scabbard when drawing or sheathing and when sheathing, the fit it a little too tight. Aside from those tiny issues, the blades were crafted very well !

I like knives and I have different types of knives and hand sharpener, electric sharpener (Tormek). I keep my knives always sharp. First time owner of a Katana. First impression is good. The steel is original Damascus. The hamon looks good. r

Things I did not like much:r
1. It was written that it is razor sharp. No, definitely not razor sharp, even noth sharp. It doesn't cut folded paper towel even though I press much. With fingers, I don't feel the sharpened. After sharpening my knives, I test them and I am what is sharp and what is notr
2. Polish is not good enough. In some points of blade, with my nail, I can easily feel the Damascus layers.r
3. Habaki: design is good, but workmanship looks poor, machine made.r
4. Saya: The thing that really bothered me was the saya. When you shake the blade, it makes wabbling noise. The blade does not perfectly fit to Saya. r

I think for this price, it was good enough.

This set, however, is of curious origins. The blades look amazing as always, a deep blue with an almost purple hue in the light. The Sakura tattoo on the blade and habaki add a classy touch and the engraved blossom on the scabbard is very eye catching and well done.r
However, the katana only has one mekugi peg so I worry about how full the tang is. It feels solid enough, but the habaki was also loose when I got it, and had to be fixed with a spacer... it seems like a corner or 2 was cut with the katana but again, great looking blade. The grip wrapping feels old, like maybe it's been in a warehouse for a while. Not bad, just not the greatest sword I've gotten from truekatana...r

Overall I'd be cautious with this particular set but I'm sure it has more to do with suppliers than truekatana

Love everything about it except for the blade is not sharp enough to cut or slice a small piece of the cards were container it came in would have been nice if it was completely sharpened it is one of the reasons I bought it mainly for a souvenir display I thought the stand might come with it it's not a big deal will order one other than that nice stay!!

The Tsuba is a bit thinner than I expected, but that is not necessarily a problem. r
I also note that the balance point is about 5 inches forward of the Tsuba - a bit farther forward than most. It works for me as the sword handles quite well.

Amazing quality. Everything is snug, tight, and very well-built. The tang is tightly wound with durable ray skin underneath. The end cap of the tang is snuggly fitted. The blade itself, while this will be used for display, is extremely sturdy. r

My main purchasing factor was that True Katana was the only company selling WWII katanas (olive color, rosewood, etc.), and all of the designs and effects are 100% accurate, with the reasonable exception that there is no stamp on the blade (but that's expected, because those forges did not make the blade). With that being said, for what this is, it's well worth the price. r

Also, shipping was very fast considering it came from China to America.
